Cooper Barrette Consulting
Lynn Fricke and Gary Cooper are both past Directors of the Accident Investigation Division at the Northwestern University Traffic Institute (now the Northwestern University Center for Public Safety). In 1991, they formed Fricke Cooper Engineering specializing in traffic crash reconstruction. Roger W. Barrette joined the team in 1993, leaving his position with Lake County Sheriff's Department. When Mr. Fricke retired, Mr. Cooper and Mr. Barrette formed Cooper Barrette Consulting, LLC. Mr. Cooper and Mr. Barrette both have engineering degrees, and previous law enforcement experience. They have published written works and have taught crash reconstruction classes for Northwestern University over the past 25+ years. Their expertise has involved them in many high profile traffic crash cases and garnered them distinction in the crash reconstruction field. Adam M. Hyde has been a technician with Cooper Barrette Consulting for over 10 years. Mr. Hyde has been a law enforcement officer for over 14 years and serves as Deputy Commander for Lake County's Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT). He also teaches accident investigation and the Bosch Crash Data Retrieval System (CDR System) courses for the Northwestern University Center for Public Safety (NUCPS).
All members of Cooper Barrette Consulting are certified CDR System Technicians and Analysts. Cooper Barrette Consulting also has the ability to download/image Hyundai electronic control modules (EDR)/ airbag control modules (ACM). Cooper Barrette Consulting uses Engineering Dynamics Corporation Human Vehicle Environment® (HVE) software, Leica® electronic total stations, AutoCad® and Rhinoceros® computer-aided design/drafting/drawing (CAD) software, and many other programs associated with traffic crash reconstruction. All members are trained to download/image and interpret heavy vehicle electronic control modules (ECM's), to include Cummins, Detroit Diesel, PACCAR, and International/Navistar.

Who We Are
Gary W. Cooper
From 1976 to 1984, Mr. Cooper was a trooper with the Indiana State Police. The last five years of his tenure with the Indiana State Police he served as the Area IV and V Accident Reconstruction Specialist before joining the staff of the Accident Investigation Division at the Northwestern University Traffic Institute (now the Northwestern University Center for Public Safety) . While at Northwestern University, Mr. Cooper authored and co-authored several chapters in Traffic Crash Reconstruction published by Northwestern University. He received his B.S. degree, in Mechanical Engineering Technology from Purdue University graduating magna cum laude. He continues to teach courses offered by Northwestern in the areas of collision investigation and reconstruction. In 1990, he became the Director of the Accident Investigation Division at Northwestern University. Then in 1992, he and Lynn B. Fricke became partners and formed Fricke Cooper Engineering, Inc. an engineering firm specializing in traffic-crash reconstruction. When Mr. Fricke retired in 2000, Mr. Cooper and longtime Fricke Cooper Engineering employee Roger W. Barrette formed Cooper Barrette Consulting, L.L.C.
Roger W. Barrette
Mr. Barrette is a consultant that specializes in vehicle collision reconstruction. Mr. Barrette has a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology and an M.S. degree in Engineering. He was a crash investigator with the Lake County Illinois Sheriff's Police from 1985 to 1993 and started teaching at the Northwestern University Traffic Institute (now the Northwestern University Center for Public Safety) in 1990. Mr. Barrette authored the chapter entitled Reconstruction of Heavy Truck Crashes in Traffic Crash Reconstruction published by Northwestern University. He joined Fricke Cooper Engineering, an engineering firm specializing in traffic crash reconstruction, in 1993. Upon the retirement of Mr. Fricke, Mr. Barrette became a principal in the consulting firm of Cooper Barrette Consulting, L.L.C. Mr. Barrette continues to teach traffic crash investigation and reconstruction courses at the Northwestern University Center for Public Safety and serves as a police officer with the Lake Villa Police Department and is a Deputy Commander of the Lake County Illinois Major Crash Assistance Team (MCAT).
Adam M. Hyde
Mr. Hyde is an ACTAR Accredited Traffic Accident Reconstructionist who
specializes in vehicle collision reconstruction. Mr. Hyde has a B.A. Degree in
Criminal Justice from Columbia College and studied engineering at Iowa State
University prior to obtaining his B.A. Degree. Mr. Hyde has over 1,800 hours of
crash investigation and reconstruction training, and he is a certified Crash
Reconstruction Specialist, Lead Homicide Investigator, and Truck Enforcement
Officer. Mr. Hyde also has a Remote Pilot Airman Certificate (Drone Pilot) from the
FAA. Mr. Hyde has nearly 20 years of law enforcement experience, including the
investigation and reconstruction of serious and fatal traffic crashes. Mr. Hyde
serves as the Deputy Commander for the Lake County Major Crash Assistance
Team (MCAT). He is a certified Bosch Crash Data Retrieval (CDR) System Trainer
and Mentor, Technician and Analyst, and applies electronic CDR, GPS and cellular
phone examinations data to investigations. Mr. Hyde is trained to properly
download and preserve data from heavy vehicle event data recorders. Mr. Hyde is
an adjunct instructor at Northwestern University Center for Public Safety (NUCPS)
where he teaches Crash Investigation, Crash Reconstruction and CDR courses. Mr.
Hyde joined Cooper Barrette Consulting in 2004.
